Lidget Green Primary School is a large primary in a highly deprived part of Bradford, with a much higher-than-average proportion of pupils eligible for free school meals. It is part of Pennine Academies Yorkshire and includes a specially resourced provision for pupils with speech, language and communication needs and autism. Safeguarding standards are met, and the school has an open safeguarding culture. Overall, the school is performing solidly, with early years standing out as a particular strength. Pupils are happy, safe and well cared for, behaviour is positive, and leaders have made significant improvements to the curriculum, inclusion and school culture in recent years. The main concern is achievement. Results in national tests at the end of key stage 2 are significantly below the national average for all pupils and for disadvantaged pupils, leaving some pupils less well prepared for their next steps. Attendance, although improving, remains below the national average, and persistent absence is above average. Leaders recognise these issues, and the improvements to curriculum and teaching are beginning to benefit younger pupils, including disadvantaged pupils and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Other development points include ensuring the specially resourced SEND provision is more fully integrated into wider school life, and strengthening systems that support staff workload and wellbeing. Strengths include the strong early years provision, effective phonics teaching, a calm and respectful behaviour culture, a clear inclusion ethos, and a well-developed personal development programme with extensive pastoral support and enrichment opportunities. Governance is effective, leaders are outward-looking, and parents are very positive about the school. The next steps are to ensure curriculum improvements translate into stronger outcomes across the full curriculum and in national tests, continue to improve attendance, and further develop staff workload and wellbeing support.
