Overall, the school requires special measures because it is not providing an acceptable standard of education and those leading, managing and governing it have not shown the capacity to secure the necessary improvement. Behaviour and attendance are urgent priorities, with dangerous and disrespectful conduct, corridor disorder, high suspensions and persistently low attendance leaving too many pupils and staff feeling unsafe. Leadership and governance are also flagged for urgent improvement, and leaders' view of the school is too positive. Despite these serious weaknesses, the report notes some positive developments. Achievement improved in 2025, including science attainment in line with national averages and disadvantaged pupils reaching standards similar to other disadvantaged pupils nationally. Pupils with SEND generally make suitable progress, and specialist support such as the Haven, Harbour, Horizons and Lighthouse is effective. The curriculum is broad and increasingly well organised, careers education is effective, and leaders have put in place a comprehensive personal development programme and professional learning for teachers. However, the quality of teaching remains variable, foundational gaps in spelling, handwriting and arithmetic are not closed effectively, and the graduated approach for SEND is sometimes too slow and inconsistent. The personal development programme has variable impact, and participation in extra-curricular activities is not tracked equitably.
