The American School in London (ASL) is an independent, college-preparatory pre-K–12 day school situated at 1 Waverley Place, London NW8 0NP, renowned for providing an exceptional American education to students from around the globe in the heart of the city. ASL has achieved tremendous success since its founding in 1951 by Stephen Eckard, having grown from a single location with 13 students to over 1,350 students from 70 countries.

The School features three divisions: Lower (K1-Grade 4), Middle (Grades 5-8), and High (Grades 9-12). Approximately half of ASL's students are dual citizens, with about 70% holding US passports and 70% holding a passport from a country other than the US. The student body consistently displays a mix of ethnicities, creating a diverse and engaging academic environment.

ASL's campus spans a rich history, having had nearly 20 addresses, including locations like Knightsbridge (originally), and the current site being dedicated in 1971 by Margaret Thatcher, then Secretary of State for Education and Science. The School maintains a strong connection with its alumni, many of whom have gone on to distinguished careers and total over 15,000 individuals, living across 77 countries.

With strong academic standards, students engage in the college-preparatory curriculum, which includes AP courses, and have access to a wealth of extracurricular activities. ASL houses state-of-the-art facilities and supports a dedicated faculty that hails from a diverse range of schools, with a strong emphasis on creating a nurturing community. All of these elements combined contribute to ASL's overall success, which has spawned the phrase "new arrivals begin to feel like seasoned veterans" as they integrate into the ever-evolving and supportive community.
