Inspectors found safeguarding standards met and the school performing strongly in attendance and behaviour, inclusion, leadership and governance, and personal development and wellbeing. Pupils are proud, happy, safe and behave extremely well; attendance is a high priority and support for SEND and disadvantaged pupils is carefully planned. Leadership is ambitious, governors are effective, and staff feel well supported. Achievement, curriculum and teaching, and early years are judged at the expected standard rather than strong. Pupils achieve broadly in line with national averages overall, with reading often above average and disadvantaged pupils performing well in reading, though writing and mathematics gaps remain. Leaders have prioritised reading and phonics and provide professional development. The main areas for development are making checks on pupils' learning consistently precise, adapting the curriculum more closely to all pupils' needs so they overcome barriers, and strengthening early identification and support for emerging speech, language and communication needs in early years so children are consistently ready for Key Stage 1. Leaders are aware of these areas and are already taking action, including training and support. The school has a caring, inclusive ethos and strong relationships with families and external professionals. Overall, it is a strong and improving school with a clear platform for further work in assessment, curriculum adaptation and early language support.
