Baguley Hall Primary is a safe, welcoming and nurturing school. Pupils are happy, polite and behave very well, and relationships with staff are warm and respectful. The school has high expectations and most pupils achieve well; reading is a particular strength, with a consistent phonics programme and effective support for pupils who need to catch up. Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities are identified quickly and supported well, attendance is a high priority, and enrichment activities and pupil leadership roles are wide-ranging. Since the previous inspection, effective leadership has improved the curriculum and raised achievement. Early years provision is carefully designed and purposeful, staff feel supported, and safeguarding arrangements are effective. The school is a primary foundation school with 510 pupils; its previous inspection grade was requires improvement. Two areas need further work. In some subjects, leaders have not precisely set out the most important knowledge and skills pupils should learn, nor identified clearly enough where pupils can deepen their understanding, so pupils do not always learn as well as they could. In addition, some governors, particularly those new to post, do not yet have sufficient knowledge and understanding to carry out their role effectively.
