Bawtry Mayflower Primary School is a caring and purposeful school where pupils enjoy learning, behave well and achieve strongly in national assessments at the end of key stage 2. The curriculum has been refined to identify the key knowledge pupils should learn, reading support is effective, pupils with SEND are well supported, and children get a happy start in early years. Pupils also benefit from a wide range of trips, leadership roles and a positive culture around safeguarding. This was the school's first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic, and inspectors took the pandemic's impact into account. Since the previous inspection, the school has appointed a new headteacher and made changes to the governing body, including a new chair. All inspected areas were judged good, and safeguarding arrangements are effective. The main area for improvement is that, in a small number of subjects, learning tasks sometimes do not let pupils apply or explore their learning in enough depth. As a result, pupils do not always learn aspects of the curriculum as thoroughly as they could. Leaders have a clear view of strengths and priorities, and there is a strong focus on further improvement.
