Sandy Secondary School has improved since its previous inspection and is now judged good across all inspected areas, including quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and sixth-form provision. The school is described as inclusive and pupil-centred, with respectful pupils, a strong sense of community and effective safeguarding. Pupils are supported well regardless of their needs or circumstances, and trusted support is readily available. The curriculum is broad and ambitious, including English Baccalaureate pathways and suitable qualifications for pupils who need a more tailored route. Teaching is structured and teachers have strong subject knowledge, while reading support and provision for pupils with SEND are particular strengths. The sixth form offers a broad curriculum with thoughtful careers guidance, and pupils benefit from a range of character, leadership, PSHE, trip and club opportunities. The school is growing, has building projects underway, and is part of the Greensands Federation. There are still areas to improve. Academic outcomes are not yet strong for all pupils, and teaching does not consistently deepen pupils’ thinking or adapt tasks closely enough using assessment information. Some pupils are not moved on quickly when ready, and governors do not always have sufficiently precise oversight because they sometimes rely on information provided by leaders. Leaders are committed to raising outcomes, and staff feel recognised and respected.
