Yaxley Infant School is a small, happy and highly inclusive infant school that is performing to a strong standard across all inspected areas. Pupils achieve very well overall, including disadvantaged pupils and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Children get off to an excellent start in the early years, and almost all pupils become fluent readers and writers by the time they leave. Attendance is above the national average, behaviour is calm and respectful, and safeguarding standards are met. The curriculum is broad, balanced and ambitious, with reading, writing and mathematics at its heart. Staff deliver it confidently and address gaps quickly. Leaders are highly reflective and well informed, governance is effective, and staff are committed to the school's vision. The personal development and wellbeing offer is particularly impressive for a school of this size, with pupils benefiting from a wide range of experiences, leadership roles and pastoral support. The main areas for further work are not significant weaknesses but clear next steps. Leaders should continue reducing persistent absence, including among disadvantaged pupils, and further support teachers in adapting learning for pupils who are ready to achieve at a higher level. The school has managed recent staffing, timetable and pupil-number changes sensitively, including the introduction of a mixed-age Reception and Year 1 class.
