Brookland Junior School is performing well overall, with particularly strong provision in inclusion, leadership and governance, and personal development and wellbeing. Leaders have built a culture of high expectations and use precise performance data to drive improvement. The school is highly effective at identifying and supporting disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND, and pupils in these groups learn well. Pupils are happy, safe, polite, and benefit from a broad personal development programme, positive behaviour, and a strong reading culture. Attainment in reading and mathematics at the end of key stage 2 is above national averages, including for disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND. However, some areas are at the expected standard rather than strong. Writing remains in line with national averages and is a continuing focus, with spelling and handwriting errors not always addressed consistently across all subjects. Pupils do not always apply their writing knowledge across the wider curriculum. Attendance overall is improving, particularly for pupils with SEND, but a small number of pupils, including some disadvantaged pupils, still attend less regularly than they should. The school is part of the Brookland Federation and serves a pupil population close to average in size, with free school meal eligibility and SEND proportions broadly typical for the phase. Inspectors found safeguarding standards met and noted that the school uses one unregistered alternative provision with clear oversight. This was a full section 5 inspection.
