Vigo Village School is a smaller-than-average community primary that was judged good in all inspected areas after its first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic. Inspectors found a warm, inclusive school with a strong family feel, high expectations and pupils who achieve well. The broad, ambitious curriculum is carefully sequenced, reading is promoted well, and support for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities is highly effective. Enrichment and responsibility opportunities contribute strongly to pupils' personal development. Leaders, governors and staff are ambitious, and staff feel well supported and trained. Safeguarding is effective. However, delivery of the curriculum is not consistently strong: sometimes staff do not check pupils' understanding thoroughly or present information clearly, so some pupils do not learn key content as securely as intended. A small minority of pupils occasionally lose focus during independent work because expectations are not clear enough, which can limit opportunities to deepen and apply their learning.
