Park House School is an independent special school for pupils with autism, all of whom have EHC plans and places commissioned by local authorities. At this standard inspection, safeguarding standards were met and all independent school standards were met. Inspectors found an exceptionally effective approach to inclusion, with highly personalised assessment and multidisciplinary support removing barriers for pupils with complex communication, sensory and emotional needs. The early years provision was not graded because there were too few children, but it was considered within the other evaluations. Pupils make clear progress from their individual starting points, particularly in communication and self-regulation, and the school is calm and purposeful. Behaviour is understood as communication, attendance is closely supported, and the curriculum is carefully designed around individual needs. Leadership and governance are strong, staff are well supported, and families are positive about the school's impact on communication, anxiety and family life. Personal development, community participation and independence are also well provided for. The main areas for development are curriculum coherence and consistency. Progression, subject content and expectations are not equally well defined across all pathways, especially for higher-attaining pupils, and some subject-specific learning does not build as coherently over time as it could. Leaders should also strengthen consistency of implementation and staff expertise, particularly in communication systems, assessment and curriculum delivery.
