Inspectors found Djanogly City Academy performing well across its main areas of work, with the sixth form standing out as exceptional. Pupils feel safe, happy and valued, and the school has a caring, inclusive culture with high expectations. The curriculum has been strengthened since the previous inspection and is broad, ambitious and well sequenced, helping pupils build knowledge from Year 7 and achieve well. Support for pupils who speak English as an additional language and for pupils with SEND is a particular strength, and safeguarding is effective. Personal development, behaviour and leadership are also strong. Pupils benefit from calm and orderly routines, tailored pastoral and careers support, and a range of cultural and values-based activities. Leaders, trustees and governors are effective and understand their responsibilities, and staff feel supported. The sixth form provides tailored pathways, expert teaching and experiences such as a London residential that help students achieve remarkable outcomes. The main areas for improvement are in key stages 3 and 4. Sometimes lessons contain too much new content at once, which causes some pupils to lose focus. Assessment is also not consistently used to check that pupils have remembered essential knowledge before moving on, meaning some pupils lack the prior knowledge they need for later learning. The report notes significant context: this is a larger academy in the Djanogly Learning Trust, operating across two sites with high pupil mobility and a high proportion of pupils speaking English as an additional language.
