Broadlands Hall is an independent special school for boys aged 9 to 20, all of whom have education, health and care plans and primarily have autism, often alongside other needs. This was a material change inspection commissioned by the Department for Education to advise on whether the school is likely to meet the relevant independent school standards if it increases its maximum number of pupils from 65 to 70. Inspectors found that it is likely to meet those standards. The proprietor and leaders have managed recent growth well, clarified the type of needs the school best meets, and put in place robust leadership, monitoring and curriculum systems suitable for a larger school. Safeguarding is a clear strength, with a vigilant culture, well-trained staff, prompt action on concerns, strong work with parents and careful monitoring of pupils' online behaviour. Health and safety, fire safety, risk assessment, recruitment checks, premises, staffing and supervision are all suitable for the proposed increase. The inspection identified no weaknesses or areas of concern. There were no pupils on site because the inspection took place during the summer holidays, but inspectors spoke with the headteacher, senior staff and the proprietor and reviewed documentation.
