St Mark’s West Essex Catholic School is a Roman Catholic secondary institution with sixth form academy status in Harlow, Essex. Established in 1965, the school boasts a history of providing education to students aged 11 to 18. Known for being coeducational with a deeply rooted Catholic ethos, the school offers a curriculum that teaches years 7–13. St Mark’s is the only Catholic school in the area with post-16 provisions, having held that title until the opening of Sir Frederick Gibberd College in September 2021.

The school has six forms in each secondary year, with each form named after a significant historical Catholic figure. Students learn under the banners of Bede, Elgar, Fisher, Hume, More, and Newman—a format that not only recognizes influential Catholics throughout history but also fosters a sense of community and belonging.

The school celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2015. Leadership throughout St Mark’s history has been characterized by dedicated headteachers, including John Taylor, who succeeded Elaine Heaphy in 2023 after her tenure from 2011 to 2023.
