Abbey Grange Church of England Academy is a large Church of England academy within Abbey Multi Academy Trust that is performing strongly overall. Inspectors found high achievement, a well-sequenced curriculum, consistently effective teaching, and strong key stage 4 outcomes, including for disadvantaged pupils and pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Attendance is well above national averages, behaviour is calm and respectful, and pupils feel safe, known and included. Leadership and governance are highly effective, with a clear vision, careful management of the transition to a new principal, strong staff development and wellbeing, and a broad personal development programme. Safeguarding standards are met. The school also provides strong pastoral support, careers guidance, enrichment and community links. The main area for improvement is post-16 provision, which is not yet as strong as the rest of the school. Sixth-form achievement is improving, but teaching, assessment and outcomes need further strengthening so that more students achieve the grades they need for their chosen next steps.

- Pupils achieve highly, with strong foundations in reading, vocabulary and subject knowledge from the moment they join.
- Key stage 4 attainment and progress have been well above national figures for several years, including in English and mathematics.

- Careers education is a significant strength, with personalised guidance and strong progression to further or higher education and employment.
- Safeguarding standards are met, with an open culture in which safeguarding is everyone's responsibility.
Areas for Improvement
- Post-16 achievement is improving but is not yet as strong as at key stage 4.
- Teaching, assessment and outcomes in the sixth form require further strengthening.
