The curriculum is broad, ambitious and well sequenced, with reading a priority and early years providing a positive start. Achievement is expected overall. Current pupils are achieving better and gaps are being addressed, but published outcomes in reading, writing and mathematics have been below national averages over the latest three-year period, and phonics remains a focus. Disadvantaged pupils' performance gaps also remain in some measures. Leaders' next steps are to adapt the curriculum responsively to pupils' emerging needs and to refine early reading and phonics so that decoding, fluency and overall achievement continue to improve.
