Bere Clinic School is an independent school for pupils aged 11 to 18 who are receiving Tier 4 hospital treatment at Bere Clinic, a specialist eating disorder service. Pupils usually attend for short periods, often arriving in crisis and with significant previous gaps in education, and they remain dual-registered with their home schools. Inspectors found an exceptionally strong, highly personalised provision: inclusion and personal development and wellbeing are exceptional, while achievement, attendance and behaviour, curriculum and teaching, and leadership and governance are all strong. Safeguarding standards are met and all independent school standards are met. The school's main strengths are its deep understanding of pupils' complex needs, meticulous assessment and tailoring of education, and the way staff rebuild pupils' confidence, resilience and ambition. Pupils make impressive progress from low starting points, attendance improves rapidly, and behaviour is positive. Pastoral support and transition planning are notably strong, and parents, staff and the proprietor body are highly positive about leadership. There are no significant concerns in the report. The only next step is for leaders to continue refining and embedding their already highly impressive practice so that their transformational impact on pupils is sustained.
