Crookhorn College is a welcoming and inclusive secondary school where staff are focused on helping all pupils succeed, including pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Pupils behave well, feel safe and are polite and respectful, supported by strong pastoral care. The school has high expectations built around its 'cornerstones' of respect, commitment, achievement and responsibility, and pupils embrace these. The school has responded effectively to changes in its cohort through a restructured curriculum, well-considered SEND support and a determined pursuit of high standards. Outcomes have improved in most subjects by the end of key stage 4, and more pupils, including disadvantaged pupils, are benefiting from the school's education. Reading is prioritised, disadvantaged pupils are supported well, attendance is addressed relentlessly, and personal development is a standout strength, with pupils exceptionally well prepared for life beyond school. Safeguarding arrangements are effective. There is one clear area for improvement: the curriculum is not yet securely and consistently embedded across all subjects. In some subjects, lessons do not build pupils' knowledge and skills successfully, so leaders need to maintain careful oversight of curriculum implementation and provide support so that standards are consistently high in all subjects. This was the school's first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic, and inspectors considered that context in their evaluation.
