School of Coding AEP Limited is a small independent school that has received its first standard inspection. It serves pupils who have often struggled in previous mainstream settings, and almost all pupils have special educational needs and/or disabilities or an education, health and care plan. The school has created a nurturing, positive and safe environment where pupils re-engage with learning, behave well, and build confidence and resilience. Safeguarding standards are met, and pupils benefit from effective teaching, strong pastoral support, and a specialist curriculum focused on coding and game design. Pupils make clear progress, particularly in English, and those with SEND are well supported. However, the school is not yet meeting all independent school standards and overall requires further development. Attendance is variable for some pupils, and leaders' attendance records are not kept in line with statutory guidance, meaning absence information is inaccurate and attendance improvement work is not sufficiently targeted. Some pupils also remain on part-time timetables for long periods, which limits their access to the full broad curriculum. Careers education and relationships and sex education are not consistently delivered to all pupils, leaving some less well prepared for adulthood. In addition, leaders do not have clear, consistently used processes for reviewing and recording pupils' needs, and they lack a strategic overview of the impact of support on pupils' behaviour, attendance and learning. The quality of education, welfare/attendance registration, and leadership and management standards are not met. The proprietor and leaders are committed to improving the school, but they need to build capacity and strengthen systems so that all pupils attend regularly and achieve well across the full curriculum.
