This was the first standard inspection of TLE Independent School, a small special school registered in March 2025 for up to 20 pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs and autism. Safeguarding standards are met and pupils benefit from a calm, welcoming environment where they build trusting relationships with staff and receive highly effective nurture and support. Personal development and wellbeing is a notable strength, with a coherent programme, strong pastoral care, and good careers education. However, the school does not meet some independent school standards, and leaders have only recently begun to implement improvements. Teaching quality varies across subjects, assessment is not used consistently to address gaps in learning, and attendance remains low. Leadership oversight lacks rigour and training for staff has not been prioritised, leading to inconsistent learning experiences. The proprietor is taking steps to strengthen governance, but these are at an early stage.
