Westhoughton High is currently rated as requiring improvement across all aspects of its performance, including the quality of education and leadership. While most pupils express enjoyment and a sense of safety at school, their academic experiences vary considerably. There are instances of strong community involvement and extracurricular opportunities, yet the curriculum in some subjects is poorly structured which leads to inadequate learning experiences, especially for students with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). This has resulted in a noticeable gap in achievements.
