Harvills Hawthorn Primary is a highly inclusive, welcoming school where pupils are proud, respectful and engaged. This was its first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic and its first section 5 inspection since 2013, following a long period of exemption; since September 2024 no overall effectiveness grade has been awarded. Inspectors found exceptional strength in behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and early years provision, while the quality of education was good. The curriculum is well sequenced and teachers have strong subject knowledge, with reading and early years particularly strong. Pupils with SEND are identified and supported effectively, relationships are positive, and pupils benefit from a wide range of wider-development and club opportunities. Staff feel well supported and safeguarding is effective. The main areas for improvement are mathematical fluency, which can slow pupils’ problem-solving, and the identification of writing errors so that mistakes are not repeated. Overall, the school provides a very high standard of education and care.
