The Canterbury Academy has been rated as requiring improvement in several key areas including the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, and leadership and management. Despite these challenges, the school has made efforts to provide a broad and inclusive curriculum that aims to meet the diverse needs of its students. While many positive aspects exist, such as good sixth-form provision and strong personal development opportunities, there are significant concerns regarding consistent behaviour management and attendance, particularly among disadvantaged students. This is the school's first inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic, which has been considered during the evaluation process.
