Robin's Nest School is an independent special school for pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, and all pupils have special educational needs and/or disabilities. At this standard inspection, safeguarding standards were met and the school meets the independent school standards consistently. Inspectors found the school performing in line with expected standards across achievement, attendance and behaviour, curriculum and teaching, inclusion, leadership and governance, and personal development and wellbeing. Pupils often join after unsettled or interrupted education, but they settle quickly, attend well, behave well and make progress from their individual starting points. Notable strengths include a broad and ambitious curriculum that combines academic learning, outdoor activities and personal development, expert support for pupils with SEND, strong relationships, and cohesive leadership and governance. Staff know pupils well and work closely with families. Pupils gain confidence, emotional regulation and independence, and they are increasingly well prepared for the next stages of learning, with careers education continuing to develop as pupils move into key stage 4. The main areas for development are writing and independent learning. Some pupils do not consistently develop handwriting, punctuation and extended composition, and strategies to build independence and self-regulation are not always effective, so some pupils lose focus when learning is less engaging. Leaders should continue to strengthen foundational knowledge and writing opportunities, and further develop pupils' concentration, engagement and positive learning behaviours.
