St. Michael's Academy

St Michael’s Academy has shown substantial improvements since its previous inspection, moving from a status of 'Requires improvement' to 'Good' overall. The school fosters a supportive and harmonious environment where pupils excel both academically and socially. The leadership team effectively implements a curriculum that emphasizes not only core subjects like English and mathematics but also broader educational experiences that engage pupils. Strong relationships between staff and pupils contribute to a positive learning atmosphere, and initiatives such as antibullying programs reflect the school’s commitment to personal development and emotional well-being. Despite these strengths, there are areas requiring attention, particularly regarding the support provided to pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Although most receive effective pastoral care, some do not receive the targeted support necessary for their reading difficulties, highlighting a gap in the tailored support they require. Furthermore, while the curriculum is well-structured, there is a need for better assessment of pupils' understanding across the wider curriculum to ensure they can consistently apply their knowledge.
