Cuxton Community Infant School is a happy, inclusive school where pupils attend regularly, behave exceptionally well and feel safe. Inspectors found attendance and behaviour, inclusion, and personal development and wellbeing to be strong. High expectations are applied consistently, bullying is rare, and disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND are well supported to take part fully in school life. The school's CARE enrichment package and extensive wellbeing support help pupils develop confidence, respect and readiness for the next stage of their education. The quality of education is generally at the expected standard. The curriculum is ambitious and well ordered, reading and writing are taught effectively, and early years provision gives children a warm, well-organised start. However, checks on learning are not always precise enough, so some misconceptions persist, particularly in mathematics, and resources for complex mathematical concepts are not consistently effective. In the early years, staff interactions are often effective, but the modelling of vocabulary is variable. Leadership and governance are committed and knowledgeable, with accurate self-evaluation and effective staff development, and safeguarding standards are met. The school is part of the Primary First Trust. The main priorities are to sharpen checks on learning so misconceptions are identified and addressed across all subjects, and to ensure high-quality vocabulary modelling is consistent throughout the early years.
