Lostwithiel School is a small primary school within the Cornwall Education Learning Trust. This full inspection found it performing very strongly overall, with safeguarding standards met. Attendance and behaviour are exceptional: pupils love coming to school, persistent absence is extremely low, and behaviour and attitudes are impeccable. In all other evaluated areas—achievement, curriculum and teaching, early years, inclusion, leadership and governance, and personal development and wellbeing—the school reaches a strong standard. Pupils achieve highly, typically above national averages in reading, writing and mathematics, and they retain and apply knowledge well across the curriculum. Teaching is effective, early years provision is strong, and pupils with SEND or other barriers receive precise support. Disadvantaged pupils benefit from well-targeted funding and enrichment, with particularly strong reading outcomes. Leadership and governance are highly effective, staff are well supported, and personal development includes a wide range of enrichment and civic opportunities. The main area for further development is mathematics, where the curriculum and teaching are not yet as fully developed as English and wider curriculum subjects. Leaders already recognise this and have made it the next priority in their improvement cycle. No other significant concerns were identified.
