Wyvern St Edmund's is a large secondary school formed from the merger of Wyvern College and St Edmund's, and this was its first section 5 inspection since opening as one school in 2022. Inspectors found a cohesive community with high expectations, generally good behaviour, calm lessons and strong personal development. Leadership and management are also good, with a clear improvement vision and effective trust support, and safeguarding is effective. However, the quality of education requires improvement because the recently redesigned curriculum is not yet consistently well implemented across all subjects. The main concerns are in teaching and SEND support. Some curriculum areas are less developed than others, and checks on what pupils know are sometimes not gathered or acted on, so pupils can move on too quickly and fail to retain learning. Adaptations for pupils with SEND are not consistently in place in classrooms, which limits their progress. Behaviour is a strength overall, but some pupils lack confidence to report bullying, and suspensions, while reducing, have been high. Attendance has improved through tenacious work with families, and the school offers a broad enrichment programme and well-implemented PSHCE and careers education.

- Some pupils lack confidence to report bullying or concerns
- Suspensions have been high, although they have reduced recently
Attainment 8 Score
Attaimenment 8 is a measure of a pupil's average grade across a set of 8 subjects. The 8 subjects which make up Attainment 8 are:
- English
- Maths
- 3 subjects from qualifications that count towards the English Baccalaureate (EBacc), like sciences, language and history
- 3 more GCSE qualifications (including EBacc subjects) or technical awards from a list approved by the Department for Education
Each grade a pupil gets is assigned a point score from 9 (the highest) to 1 (the lowest). These scores are added up, with English and maths counted twice.

Admissions: local authority offers data from the Department for Education. A school is oversubscribed when at least 5% of the families who put it first were not offered a place, and undersubscribed when everyone who put it first got in but 10% or more of its places were unfilled in the Department's school capacity survey (the latest survey is used for entry years it does not cover). Places: Department for Education, School capacity, from local authorities' annual survey as at 1 May. Each year is the one the school year ends in (2025 is 2024–25); the survey was not run in 2020. Places include sixth form places. Forecasts are the local authority's own for the school's planning area, an area it uses to plan places that is not the school's catchment area. The forecast starts from a head count in 2025; the dashed line is the Department's estimate of places in that area, including those the authority has firm plans for. Planned places are cumulative, and only those with firm plans are counted.
In 2024–25 pupils at Wyvern St Edmund's Academy attended 90.2% of sessions (the national figure for secondary schools was 91.6%). 27.2% of pupils were persistently absent, missing at least one session in ten (nationally 23.4%).

A pupil can be suspended more than once, so suspensions per 100 pupils can be higher than the share of pupils suspended. Very small numbers are hidden by the DfE. Exclusion figures dropped in 2020 and 2021 because of school closures.

Turnover is the share of a year's teachers (full-time equivalent) who were not at the school the following year, whether they moved to another school or left state-funded teaching. Turnover and sickness figures run one year behind the ratios. Sick leave is the share of teachers who took at least one day in the year, so it swings widely at small schools, where a few teachers can make it 0% or 100%. The national figures are for all state schools of the same type.
