Emerge School has made substantial and rapid progress since its previous inspection and now meets all of the independent school standards checked during this progress monitoring visit. The school had previously failed standards in parts 1, 3 and 5, including welfare, health and safety, because leadership lacked the knowledge and oversight to secure sustained compliance. Following a Department for Education-required action plan, the proprietor has strengthened leadership and governance, established an executive board, and clarified roles and accountability. Leaders have implemented improvements with urgency across curriculum, health and safety, and premises. Key improvements include a coherent careers programme with a weekly key stage 3 lesson, independent careers advice and personalised plans for secondary-aged pupils. Safeguarding remains effective, and health and safety arrangements are now much stronger: first aid, fire safety, risk assessment and supervision are compliant and well managed, including for pupils with complex needs. The medical room has been relocated and appropriately equipped, and the premises now provide a safe, well-maintained environment with improved lighting, outdoor space and boundary safety. This was the first progress monitoring inspection since a material change inspection in January 2026, and the school’s most recent standard inspection was in June 2024. The school is an other independent special school for pupils aged 5 to 13. No significant concerns or areas of non-compliance were identified in this inspection.
