Strengths
- Creates a caring, nurturing and inclusive ethos with positive relationships at its centre.
- Identifies and meets the complex needs of pupils with SEMH and autism well, including through bespoke individual plans.
- Uses detailed attendance monitoring and robust action plans to improve attendance from pupils' starting points.
- Promotes typically calm, respectful behaviour through clear expectations and skilful, individualised support.
- Offers a well-organised curriculum that makes clear what pupils should know and remember at each stage.
- Provides strong personal development, including well-sequenced PSHE/RSE, British values and pupil voice.
- Offers a broad enrichment programme, including off-site activities, careers education and independence-building.
- Supports staff well through training, wellbeing support and workload consideration.
- Has effective leadership and proprietor oversight with a good balance of challenge and support.
- Works effectively with external agencies and the virtual school for looked-after pupils.
- Uses alternative provision appropriately with robust suitability and safety processes.
Areas for Improvement
- Teachers do not always check closely enough on what pupils already know, so work can be too easy or too difficult.
- Gaps in pupils' essential knowledge are not consistently identified and addressed.
- The system for identifying missing essential knowledge is fit for purpose but remains at an early stage.
- Leaders do not yet have a fully rounded view of how well the phonics programme is helping pupils learn to read.
