St Paul's CofE Primary is a small Church of England primary that inspectors found to be performing well overall, with particularly strong practice in attendance and behaviour, early years, inclusion, leadership and governance, and personal development. Pupils are proud of their school, behave consistently well, feel safe and are supported to take part fully in school life. Attendance is consistently above national averages and persistent absence is well below national. Early years provision gives children a high-quality start, and pupils with SEND and disadvantaged pupils are identified quickly and supported well. Outcomes are more mixed. Pupils' combined reading, writing and mathematics results are broadly in line with national averages, and writing is a notable strength, but disadvantaged pupils do not achieve as well as disadvantaged pupils nationally, especially in mathematics. Leaders have improved the mathematics curriculum and teaching, but this has not yet led to better Year 6 outcomes for disadvantaged pupils. In some subjects, including history and geography, checks on prior learning are not routine enough, so pupils' recall is variable. This was a full section 5 inspection under the renewed framework. The school has 202 pupils, is smaller than average, has a below-average proportion of pupils eligible for free school meals and has recently entered a partnership with another local school. Safeguarding standards are met.
