Castle Hill Primary School is a highly inclusive and caring school where pupils behave exceptionally well and are well prepared for life beyond school. The curriculum is ambitious and well sequenced from the early years, reading is a high priority, and support for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities is a real strength, including through the school’s specialist speech, language and communication provision. Leadership is effective, staff feel well supported, parents are very positive, and safeguarding arrangements are effective. The main area for improvement is pupils’ writing across the wider curriculum. Technical errors and misconceptions are not identified and addressed quickly enough beyond English, which limits the fluency and quality of written work in other subjects. Leaders should ensure pupils have more opportunities to develop their writing in different subjects and that assessment is used consistently to correct errors and misconceptions. This was the school’s first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic. Castle Hill is a single academy trust, and inspectors considered the school’s specialist resource provision and its broader context when making their judgements.
