Eccleston Mere Primary School is a welcoming and inclusive school where most pupils achieve well, behave calmly and feel safe. Inspectors found personal development and wellbeing to be a strong feature, with pastoral support singled out as a particular strength and pupils benefiting from a wide range of clubs, trips and leadership opportunities. Safeguarding standards are met. Reading is also a strength, and most pupils read accurately by the time they leave Reception. Disadvantaged pupils and pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities are well included in school life and access the wider opportunities on offer. The main areas for improvement concern early writing and aspects of early years provision. Some younger pupils do not form letters correctly, and staff do not consistently spot and address these errors, so some writing remains inaccurate. Some pupils have gaps in prior knowledge that are not identified before new learning, which makes it harder for them to secure new ideas and deepen their understanding. In early years, the curriculum is not clear enough in a small number of areas about the key ideas and vocabulary children should learn, and some staff do not consistently use interactions and provision to build children's vocabulary and understanding. Leaders have appropriate priorities, including improving writing and attendance, and have already revised how early writing is taught. Governors fulfil their roles effectively, and staff value the professional development they receive, including training in SEND support and early reading. The school is larger than average, has below-average proportions of pupils eligible for free school meals and pupils with SEN support, and is located in an area with above-average deprivation. This was a full section 5 inspection under the renewed inspection framework.

- Teachers do not always check that all pupils have the knowledge they need before moving on to new learning.
- In early years, the curriculum is not clear enough in a small number of areas about the most important ideas and key vocabulary children should learn.

Admissions: local authority offers data from the Department for Education. A school is oversubscribed when at least 5% of the families who put it first were not offered a place, and undersubscribed when everyone who put it first got in but 10% or more of its places were unfilled in the Department's school capacity survey (the latest survey is used for entry years it does not cover). Places: Department for Education, School capacity, from local authorities' annual survey as at 1 May. Each year is the one the school year ends in (2025 is 2024–25); the survey was not run in 2020. Places include sixth form places. Forecasts are the local authority's own for the school's planning area, an area it uses to plan places that is not the school's catchment area. The forecast starts from a head count in 2025; the dashed line is the Department's estimate of places in that area, including those the authority has firm plans for. Planned places are cumulative, and only those with firm plans are counted.

Turnover is the share of a year's teachers (full-time equivalent) who were not at the school the following year, whether they moved to another school or left state-funded teaching. Turnover and sickness figures run one year behind the ratios. Sick leave is the share of teachers who took at least one day in the year, so it swings widely at small schools, where a few teachers can make it 0% or 100%. The national figures are for all state schools of the same type.
