Hempshill Hall Primary is a welcoming and inclusive primary school where pupils feel safe, behave well and achieve well. Inspectors found a broad and ambitious curriculum, strong reading and phonics provision, effective support for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, and a strong pastoral focus. Pupils value the school's diversity, take part in extra-curricular activities and contribute to the school and local community. This was the school's first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic, and it remains a good school under the current inspection framework, with no overall effectiveness grade awarded. The main areas for improvement relate to a small minority of subjects. In these subjects, leaders have not precisely identified the key knowledge and skills pupils must learn, and the chosen activities do not always help pupils retain important information. Assessment checks are also inconsistent in some subjects, meaning gaps in pupils' knowledge or misconceptions are not always identified and addressed quickly. Aside from these points, leadership, governance, behaviour, personal development and early years provision are all strengths.
