The Rose School is a community special school for pupils aged 11 to 16 with social, emotional and mental health needs, and all pupils have an EHC plan. Following a previous inspection that judged the school as requiring improvement, leaders and governors have addressed the identified areas with urgency and precision. Pupils now flourish in a calm, caring environment, benefit from respectful relationships and a well-considered transition programme, and most achieve well because the school has high aspirations for their achievement and conduct. The school provides an ambitious, broad curriculum and generally sets out the important knowledge pupils should learn clearly. Staff are well supported with curriculum design, and pupils typically gain qualifications that prepare them well for further study or work. The school identifies SEND accurately, provides specialist and therapeutic support, meets pupils' reading and phonics needs, and supports emotional needs and attendance effectively. Personal development is strong, including careers education and outdoor learning, and safeguarding arrangements are effective. There are two areas for improvement. In a small number of subjects, staff are not clear enough about what key knowledge to teach and when, so some activities do not help pupils learn in sufficient depth. More broadly, the school's assessment strategies are still at an early stage, meaning some gaps and misconceptions are not addressed promptly and some pupils move on to new learning before they are ready.

- Maths
- 3 subjects from qualifications that count towards the English Baccalaureate (EBacc), like sciences, language and history

Source: Department for Education, School workforce in England. Each year is the one the school year ends in (2025 is 2024/25). Pupils per teacher counts full-time-equivalent pupils and teachers. Turnover is the share of a year's teachers (full-time equivalent) who were not at the school the following year, whether they moved to another school or left state-funded teaching. Turnover and sickness figures run one year behind the ratios. Sick leave is the share of teachers who took at least one day in the year, so it swings widely at small schools, where a few teachers can make it 0% or 100%. The national figures are for all state schools of the same type.
