Novaturient School is an independent special school for pupils who all have education, health and care plans identifying social, emotional and mental health needs. It operates across two sites and uses external placements and alternative provision. Inspectors found the school meets the independent school standards and safeguarding requirements, with all evaluated areas performing at the expected level. Pupils arrive with significant gaps in learning and often a history of disrupted education, but the school helps most to progress well from their starting points, attend more regularly and develop more positive attitudes to learning. The school's main strengths are its effective support for complex SEND and SEMH needs, strong pastoral care, and warm, consistent relationships that create a calm and happy environment. Staff are well trained, the curriculum is typically ambitious and well taught, and pupils benefit from targeted English and mathematics intervention, reading support and opportunities to gain functional skills qualifications. Leadership has a clear vision, understands the school's strengths and improvement priorities, and staff feel well supported. Personal development prepares pupils well for life in modern Britain, and safeguarding is met. Leaders' next steps focus on improving consistency and challenge across the two sites, ensuring written feedback is acted on consistently, making EHC target steps more specific, strengthening Virtual School partnership working, and building a more structured careers programme. The second site's curriculum is recently established and still embedding. Overall, this is a school with secure foundations that is meeting requirements and continuing to develop its provision.

Areas for Improvement
- Staff are not always confident supporting pupils to act on written feedback, so pupils do not consistently deepen or extend their learning.
- A small minority of pupils are not sufficiently challenged by the curriculum across the two sites.
- The second site's curriculum is recently established and still embedding, and consistency of curriculum and teaching across both sites needs further development.
- Steps needed for pupils to reach their EHC plan targets are sometimes not sufficiently specific, so staff do not always know exactly what pupils need to practise or develop.
- Communication and partnership working with the Virtual School are not as well established as they could be, limiting coordination of planning for pupils' next steps.
- The careers programme is not fully structured, so some pupils' depth of knowledge about future career opportunities is underdeveloped.
In 2025–26, 0.0% of pupils at Novaturient School were on SEN support (nationally 18.4%) and 100.0% had an education, health and care (EHC) plan (nationally 7.9%).
