Brentford School for Girls is a happy, inclusive and orderly school where pupils feel safe and behave well. Inspectors found a broad and ambitious curriculum, strong subject teaching, accurate support for pupils with SEND and effective pastoral care. Pupils achieve well, particularly at GCSE, and benefit from enrichment, careers guidance and a wide range of responsibilities. The sixth form is also good, with students well prepared for university, apprenticeships and employment, though some students’ reading, writing and oracy skills are not strong enough for the most demanding academic work. Leadership is a notable strength: leaders are reflective, staff feel valued and trustees know the school well and provide effective support and challenge. Safeguarding is effective. The main area for improvement is ensuring sixth-form students are better prepared for the literacy and oracy demands of advanced study; inspectors also noted that misconceptions in some PSHE/Blossom lessons are not always addressed quickly. This was the school’s first section 5 graded inspection. It is a single-academy-trust girls’ school with a mixed sixth form and an on-site SEN unit, and under the current framework it received no overall effectiveness grade; each key judgement was good.
