Kingswood Academy is a large 11–16 mixed secondary academy in the Lift Schools trust that was inspected in December 2024. Inspectors found an exceptionally positive school where pupils are highly motivated, behave calmly and benefit from a wide range of enrichment and leadership opportunities. Pupils achieve highly at the end of key stage 4, and the school is seen as strongly improving pupils’ life chances. The quality of education is strong, with a carefully structured curriculum, effective assessment and feedback, and particularly effective support for pupils with SEND; reading is also a clear priority. Behaviour and personal development are exceptional, and safeguarding arrangements are effective. Leadership at all levels is ambitious and has driven significant improvement, with strong support from the trust and academy council. The main area for improvement is that, in some lessons, pupils are not given enough opportunities to connect their knowledge or apply what they have learned. As a result, some pupils do not develop as deep an understanding as they could. Leaders are already implementing strategies to address this, and the school should ensure these pedagogical approaches are used consistently. This was a graded inspection, and under current arrangements the school was not given an overall effectiveness grade. It remains a school with many notable strengths and one clear, already-identified area for further refinement.

Attainment 8 Score
Attaimenment 8 is a measure of a pupil's average grade across a set of 8 subjects. The 8 subjects which make up Attainment 8 are:
- English
- Maths
- 3 subjects from qualifications that count towards the English Baccalaureate (EBacc), like sciences, language and history
- 3 more GCSE qualifications (including EBacc subjects) or technical awards from a list approved by the Department for Education
Each grade a pupil gets is assigned a point score from 9 (the highest) to 1 (the lowest). These scores are added up, with English and maths counted twice.

Admissions: local authority offers data from the Department for Education. A school is oversubscribed when at least 5% of the families who put it first were not offered a place, and undersubscribed when everyone who put it first got in but 10% or more of its places were unfilled in the Department's school capacity survey (the latest survey is used for entry years it does not cover). Places: Department for Education, School capacity, from local authorities' annual survey as at 1 May. Each year is the one the school year ends in (2025 is 2024–25); the survey was not run in 2020. Places include sixth form places. Forecasts are the local authority's own for the school's planning area, an area it uses to plan places that is not the school's catchment area. The forecast starts from a head count in 2025; the dashed line is the Department's estimate of places in that area, including those the authority has firm plans for. Planned places are cumulative, and only those with firm plans are counted.
In 2024–25 pupils at Lift Kingswood attended 94.7% of sessions (the national figure for secondary schools was 91.6%). 13.8% of pupils were persistently absent, missing at least one session in ten (nationally 23.4%).

Source: Department for Education, School workforce in England. Each year is the one the school year ends in (2025 is 2024/25). Pupils per teacher counts full-time-equivalent pupils and teachers. Turnover is the share of a year's teachers (full-time equivalent) who were not at the school the following year, whether they moved to another school or left state-funded teaching. Turnover and sickness figures run one year behind the ratios. Sick leave is the share of teachers who took at least one day in the year, so it swings widely at small schools, where a few teachers can make it 0% or 100%. The national figures are for all state schools of the same type.
