Dixons Trinity Chapeltown is an all-through school in Leeds serving a diverse and relatively deprived community, with a high proportion of pupils eligible for free school meals. Inspectors found it performing strongly across achievement, attendance and behaviour, curriculum and teaching, early years, inclusion, leadership and governance, and personal development, with safeguarding requirements met. Pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities and disadvantaged pupils, achieve well from Reception through to Year 11; disadvantaged pupils’ progress and attainment by the end of Key Stage 4 are particularly strong, and pupils move on to ambitious next steps. Behaviour is excellent and attendance is a clear priority, with tailored trust strategies helping disadvantaged pupils attend better than their peers nationally. The curriculum is ambitious and consistently taught, early years provision gets children off to a strong start, and inclusion is a defining feature: pupils are well supported, additional needs are identified quickly, and targeted funding is used effectively. Leadership and governance are knowledgeable and focused on the trust’s mission to challenge educational and social disadvantage; staff feel supported and personal development and enrichment are extensive. The main areas to watch are published Key Stage 2 outcomes, which are not consistently as strong as the school’s internal progress picture, especially in mathematics for disadvantaged pupils, and the need to build on recent improvements in attendance for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities so that the impact is sustained for all. The report nevertheless identifies no graded area below strong standard.
