Cambridge Muslim Secondary School is a small, newly registered independent Islamic school with eight pupils on roll at the time of its first standard inspection. The school met all independent school standards and safeguarding requirements. Pupils are safe, happy, attend well and behave courteously. They enjoy learning, make good progress from their starting points and benefit from a broad, ambitious curriculum that is adjusted to close gaps for pupils who have missed periods of formal schooling. The school's nurturing ethos, strong relationships and coherent personal development programme prepare pupils well for life in modern Britain. The main strengths are the school's positive culture, effective support for pupils' learning gaps, secure safeguarding arrangements and robust governance and premises. Leaders have established clear systems, and staff feel well supported with their workload and wellbeing. Pupils respect one another, learn about other faiths and are increasingly independent and resilient learners. There are areas for further development. Assessment is not consistently rigorous or precise, so teachers do not always adapt work swiftly enough to secure or deepen pupils' knowledge. Leaders need to strengthen staff subject and pedagogical expertise and use assessment better to plan key stage 4 pathways. Recent staffing instability is noted, and the school should broaden its extra-curricular trips and opportunities as it grows.
