St Andrew’s C of E Primary is a friendly, caring school where pupils feel safe and happy. Inspectors found positive relationships, calm behaviour and an inclusive ethos, with pupils taking on responsibilities from the early years and older pupils helping younger children. All inspected areas were judged good, a notable improvement from the previous inspection when the school required improvement. The school has made significant curriculum changes. The curriculum is ambitious and well sequenced, and pupils revisit key themes. Reading is a high priority, phonics is taught well from Reception, and improvements to key-stage-2 reading are raising achievement. Pupils with SEND and those learning English as an additional language are supported effectively, and personal development is a particular strength; pupils are respectful, know how to stay safe and are well prepared for life beyond school. Safeguarding is effective and attendance is improving. The main area for improvement is that the curriculum is still developing in some subjects. In these areas, activities do not consistently help pupils learn important content in depth, so some pupils find it hard to explain their learning beyond simple facts, which limits their oral and written explanations. Leaders and governors are using external advisers to monitor the impact of changes, and staff value the attention given to their workload and well-being.
