Kew Riverside Primary School is a small, well below average-sized primary with a high proportion of disadvantaged pupils and pupils with EHC plans, and a pupil population that has been less stable than average. Inspectors found safeguarding standards met and a highly inclusive, warm and family-like school. Early years provision is a particular strength: children are happy, confident and well prepared for Year 1. Personal development and wellbeing are also strong, with a well-planned programme, high enrichment uptake and effective pastoral care. Pupils behave very well and bullying is rare. Pupils typically achieve above national averages over time in combined reading, writing and mathematics, and disadvantaged pupils do well compared with their national peers. The curriculum is broad and ambitious, and teaching is generally effective, though a very small minority of pupils are sometimes unclear about what they are being taught, and leaders should continue to embed agreed teaching approaches consistently. The main concern is attendance. Overall attendance is below the national average, and persistent absence remains high, especially among disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND. Leaders are taking appropriate action and there are some positive signs, but the impact is variable and more work is needed. The school is well led and governed, with a clear awareness of strengths and priorities.
