London Vocational Ballet School is an independent vocational school for pupils aged 10 to 16, and it remains a safe and caring environment where pupils are extremely committed to both academic study and ballet training. Safeguarding standards are met, behaviour is excellent, and pupils are very well prepared for prestigious next steps in vocational training. Published outcomes at the end of Year 11 are consistently high, including for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities and those facing other barriers. The curriculum is broad, ambitious and generally well taught, and personal development, pastoral care and careers guidance are notable strengths. However, the school is not meeting all independent school standards. Inclusion and leadership and governance require attention. Leaders and staff have limited SEND expertise, do not reliably implement provision recommended by external specialists, and do not routinely check the quality or consistency of support, meaning some pupils with SEND do not receive the help to which they are entitled. The proprietor has not ensured that all standards are consistently met and does not have sufficiently developed oversight of SEND provision. Professional development is also not rigorous enough, so some inconsistencies in curriculum delivery persist. There are further areas to strengthen in the quality of education. Younger pupils’ writing is less secure, work quality varies across subjects, and pupils do not always develop knowledge with the depth leaders intend. In some lessons, pupils have limited sustained independent work, and teachers do not always check understanding of more-complex concepts systematically. The next steps rightly focus on improving SEND provision, strengthening training and oversight, and ensuring consistent opportunities for pupils to apply and deepen their knowledge independently.
