Inspectors found that pupils achieve exceptionally well, including in the sixth form, and that the curriculum is ambitious and well sequenced across subjects. Teachers understand pupils’ needs, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, check understanding carefully and adapt learning so that pupils build deep knowledge. Reading is prioritised, and pupils benefit from well-planned reading lessons and support for weaker readers. Pupils’ behaviour and attitudes are excellent: attendance is high, lessons are calm and orderly, and pupils are respectful and enthusiastic. The school’s ‘Tudor Habits and Values’ programme is central to personal development, with strong opportunities for leadership, citizenship, trips and careers education. Careers work is particularly well integrated, with extensive links to employers, further education providers and universities. The sixth form has a broad A-level curriculum and a supportive ethos, and safeguarding arrangements are effective. This was the school’s first routine inspection since the pandemic and its first section 5 inspection since 2014, when it was previously judged outstanding and later exempt from routine inspection. It is part of The Tudor Grange Academies Trust. Since September 2024, schools inspected under this framework do not receive an overall effectiveness grade. The report notes that a small group of disadvantaged pupils did less well in 2024 GCSE examinations, but the school has responded effectively with additional support.
