Description
betaKingswinford Academy, located in Kingswinford, West Midlands, is a coeducational secondary school with academy status that educates students from ages 11 to 16 within the English state-education system. Established around 1936, the school has evolved through local authority controls, becoming an independent Academy on January 1, 2012, joining the Windsor Academy Trust (WAT) in September 2016.
The school houses approximately 908 students, divided into four houses that bear names drawn from the periodic table: Krypton, Argon, Neon, and Helium, with each having about 220 students. Head teacher Ian Moreton oversees a staff of around 100 dedicated professionals. Kingswinford Academy offers learning primarily through key stages 3 (Year 7, 8, and 9) and key stage 4 (Year 10 and 11).
Major improvements to facilities have been made since converting to an Academy status in 2012, with the addition of an observatory, three modern classroom facilities in 2014, and a new refectory named "The Hedley Refectory" in 2017. In 2018, the school opened the King's Pod, a snackish food vendor for students. There have been several noteworthy alumni, including singer Blessing Chitapa, politician Nicola Richards, and women's footballer Ebony Salmon.
