School 21 is an all-through academy free school in the Big Education Trust serving pupils aged 4 to 18, including a large sixth form. Following its previous Requires improvement judgement, this inspection found the school to be Good in all judged areas: quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, early years provision and sixth-form provision. Pupils are happy and safe, typically work hard and behave well, and benefit from a broad, ambitious and innovative curriculum that runs from Reception through to the sixth form. The school supports pupils with SEND effectively, prioritises attendance, and provides strong opportunities in performing arts, oracy and careers. Staff feel valued and governance and trust oversight are sharper than before. The main areas for development concern consistency. The ambitious curriculum is not implemented equally well across all phases and subjects, so pupils sometimes struggle to recall key knowledge they have learned previously. Assessment and feedback are not always used effectively to identify and address gaps or misconceptions, which can allow learning gaps to persist. Support for older pupils at the early stages of reading is less well developed than in the primary phase, and published sixth-form outcomes are currently lower than those for younger pupils. Safeguarding arrangements are effective.
