Laurel Park School

Laurel Park School is a small mixed secondary and sixth-form school that has improved markedly since its previous inspection. Inspectors found the school performing well across the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and sixth-form provision, with safeguarding arrangements effective. Pupils say behaviour has improved and is now calm and orderly; they feel known as individuals and safe. The curriculum is broad and ambitious, and pupils with SEND are successfully included. Reading is prioritised, teaching is clear, and pupils typically produce good-quality work. Leaders have stabilised staffing and improved curriculum design, behaviour and SEND provision. The school was relaunched as Laurel Park School in September 2023, and its new sixth form, launched in September 2024 for a small number of students, has got off to a strong start. The main area for improvement is that some pupils do not consistently complete work designed to embed key knowledge, so gaps can persist. Leaders must ensure teachers check all pupils' learning so that everyone knows and remembers the intended curriculum securely. Published outcomes do not yet reflect the positive impact of recent changes, because previous pupils did not benefit from them.
