Ravenscroft Community Primary School is a happy, purposeful school where pupils behave exceedingly well and feel safe. Inspectors found the school good across all inspected areas, with a broad and ambitious curriculum that has been developed recently and meets pupils’ needs well, including those with SEND. Most pupils, including pupils with SEND, achieve well, and pupils show excellent attitudes to learning. The school’s values are evident in daily life, and pupils benefit from a wide range of clubs, trips and leadership opportunities. The early years provision supports children’s speech and language effectively, and early reading and phonics are taught consistently well. The school identifies pupils with SEND early and provides appropriate support. Personal development is well considered, pupils learn how to stay safe and respect different faiths and cultures, and they are well prepared for life in modern Britain. Governors understand their strategic role, hold leaders to account and consider staff workload and well-being. Parents hold the school in high regard, and safeguarding arrangements are effective. There are some areas for improvement. In a small number of subjects, curriculum steps are not precise enough, so pupils do not always build logically on prior knowledge. A small number of key stage 2 pupils do not receive reading support that helps them catch up quickly enough. Published 2024 Year 6 attainment in reading and mathematics was significantly below the national average, although the school notes that many of these pupils joined at various points in Years 4 to 6 and could not fully benefit from the current curriculum. Currently, most pupils achieve well. This was the school’s first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic, and a new headteacher was appointed in September 2023.

Admissions: local authority offers data from the Department for Education. A school is oversubscribed when at least 5% of the families who put it first were not offered a place, and undersubscribed when everyone who put it first got in but 10% or more of its places were unfilled in the Department's school capacity survey (the latest survey is used for entry years it does not cover). Places: Department for Education, School capacity, from local authorities' annual survey as at 1 May. Each year is the one the school year ends in (2025 is 2024–25); the survey was not run in 2020. Places include sixth form places. Forecasts are the local authority's own for the school's planning area, an area it uses to plan places that is not the school's catchment area. The forecast starts from a head count in 2025; the dashed line is the Department's estimate of places in that area, including those the authority has firm plans for. Planned places are cumulative, and only those with firm plans are counted.

Source: Department for Education, School workforce in England. Each year is the one the school year ends in (2025 is 2024/25). Pupils per teacher counts full-time-equivalent pupils and teachers. Turnover is the share of a year's teachers (full-time equivalent) who were not at the school the following year, whether they moved to another school or left state-funded teaching. Turnover and sickness figures run one year behind the ratios. Sick leave is the share of teachers who took at least one day in the year, so it swings widely at small schools, where a few teachers can make it 0% or 100%. The national figures are for all state schools of the same type.
