Bank View High School

Bank View School is an all-through community special school for pupils aged 5 to 19, all of whom have EHC plans. Since the previous inspection, the school has grown significantly from 204 to 405 pupils and now operates across three sites plus two registered alternative provisions. This was its first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic. Inspectors found an exceptional school where pupils achieve highly from their starting points. The curriculum is broad, ambitious and carefully adapted to pupils’ wide range of special educational needs and/or disabilities. Reading is a priority, staff check understanding well, and pupils have very positive attitudes to learning in a calm and friendly environment. Personal development, careers education, attendance support and safeguarding are all strong, and sixth-form students are well prepared for independence and work. All key judgements, including sixth-form provision, were outstanding, and the previous inspection grade was also outstanding. Leaders have managed the school’s growth while keeping its values and ethos consistent across sites, and staff wellbeing is a priority. The report identifies no weaknesses or areas for improvement.
