St Marie’s Catholic Primary is a welcoming, nurturing school where pupils feel known and cared for, and where behaviour and personal development are strong. Pupils enjoy school, behave well and benefit from a broad range of wider opportunities. Leadership and governance have changed significantly since the previous inspection, and leaders have worked with commitment to revise the curriculum, support staff and improve attendance. Safeguarding is effective. The main concern is the quality of education. The revised curriculum is broad and ambitious and is sequenced in most subjects, but it is not yet consistently delivered or securely embedded across the school. Assessment is not applied consistently enough to identify and close gaps, including gaps left by the previous curriculum. Published reading and mathematics results were significantly below national averages in 2023 and 2024, and some pupils are not yet achieving as well as they should or fully prepared for the next stage. Early reading and phonics are a clear strength, with pupils getting off to a strong start and most reading confidently by the end of key stage 1. However, the revised reading curriculum beyond phonics is at a very early stage, and pupils do not yet build strong higher-order comprehension skills or have sufficient long-standing access to a wide range of texts. Under the current inspection framework, no overall effectiveness grade was awarded.

Admissions: local authority offers data from the Department for Education. A school is oversubscribed when at least 5% of the families who put it first were not offered a place, and undersubscribed when everyone who put it first got in but 10% or more of its places were unfilled in the Department's school capacity survey (the latest survey is used for entry years it does not cover). Places: Department for Education, School capacity, from local authorities' annual survey as at 1 May. Each year is the one the school year ends in (2025 is 2024–25); the survey was not run in 2020. Places include sixth form places. Forecasts are the local authority's own for the school's planning area, an area it uses to plan places that is not the school's catchment area. The forecast starts from a head count in 2025; the dashed line is the Department's estimate of places in that area, including those the authority has firm plans for. Planned places are cumulative, and only those with firm plans are counted.

Turnover is the share of a year's teachers (full-time equivalent) who were not at the school the following year, whether they moved to another school or left state-funded teaching. Turnover and sickness figures run one year behind the ratios. Sick leave is the share of teachers who took at least one day in the year, so it swings widely at small schools, where a few teachers can make it 0% or 100%. The national figures are for all state schools of the same type.
